How Pagerank, Domain Authority and Alexa Rank eventually helps bloggers

Every blogger is familiar with Pagerank, Domain authority and Alexa rank. These are the metrics used to weigh popularity of any blog. As everyone knows Pagerank is the standard metric introduced by Google to show how well your blog performs in search engine rankings. Pagerank is purely based on how others link to your site. If 100 lower page rank or less popular sites link to you, there would be not much advantage.  On the other hand, if you manage to get links from 2 highly popular or higher page rank sites that would really make a big difference. The higher your Pagerank, the more chances you get to rank well in Google. Gone are the days when people involved in link selling and buying to influence Pagerank. Google has slapped with their strict rules and imposed ban on all publishers who tried to gain links in illegitimate manner. Some of them may received penalty notices from Google.

The 3 strong reasons why bloggers run after Pagerank are to boost higher search engine rankings, get paid posts and to get advertising from direct advertisers. The higher search rankings results in high traffic. Bloggers generally struggle for organic traffic. They try to use different strategies like SEO, Social media promotion, paid advertising to rank well. The companies offer paid posts to the bloggers to pass some juice to their commercial link. They pay according to the page ranks of the blogs. The higher the page rank, the more you will get paid by companies. Many freelancers negotiate with bloggers on behalf of the company to get the paid link contract. In return they make some bucks. You could probably see them on forums and social media sites. Once the paid post gets published companies pay you.

When coming to direct advertising, companies often look blogs with huge traffic, good Alexa rank, nice Google PR and others. But, advertisers may not consider Pagerank if your blog manages to attract tens of thousands of visitors on daily basis. However, some bloggers or companies may look for good Pagerank to place their text links or sitewide links on sidebar or footer. The basic idea is to grab some PR juice from the blogger’s site. Google doesn’t encourage paidlinks and may completely penalize or partially penalize your blog. Google emphasize you to use ‘nofollow’ for the paid link but why does an advertiser agree for it. However, there are lesser chances to get penalty if the paid link is safe, reputed and relevant to your niche.

Domain authority ( DA) is the metric introduced by MOZ to see your site’s performance in search engine rankings. MOZ ranks your site on points basis (1-100). If your site is quite old, having adequate traffic and good number of inbound links then you have the higher chances to score well. If your site has thin content and has no popularity then your score would be very low. If you manage to get inbound links from trusted and popular sites you can see your score increasing.

Bloggers should follow link building strategies like directory submission, article marketing, blog commenting and guest blogging. You could attract traffic as well as trust from reputed sources. These things help you to get good domain authority. Unlike Google Pagerank update, MOZ rank doesn’t increase rapidly. It takes time to get higher DA. Bloggers should keep in mind that DA is same for all the web pages of a site. Where as page authority shows the individual page’s performance. Companies and advertisers also consider site’s domain authority to offer paid posts and advertising.

Alexa ranking system has started showing traffic analytics of the registered sites. It made advertisers easy to analyze the quality and traffic of the sites. Direct advertising programs like Buysellads consider Alexa rank to approve the blogs. Being a blogger you could get good Alexa rank if you manage to get traffic from fellow bloggers. The Alexa rank is mainly based on the data collected from the installed toolbar.

Conclusion : All the three metrics are useful to gain advertising and paid posts. But, it doesn’t happen overnight. Newbies shouldn’t blog for the sake of Pagerank, Domain authority and Alexa rank. They should focus more on delivering interesting and informative content to the readers. SEO and social media helps to get exposure to your content and finally these metrics start working.
