5 Tasks We Need To Complete In Order To Sell Our Home Quickly

We are still debating on when we would like to sell our home, but we are thinking it will be sooner than what we originally thought.

This means I would like to start doing stuff to our home now so that we are not stressed and intimidated by it all later.

When the time does come for us to list our house, I do not want to rush to complete all of the tasks and I would like to relax a little more (if that’s at all possible when selling a home).

Some might think I’m crazy to start this early but it’s just who I am.

We want to improve our home so that it will be more presentable, it will hopefully sell quicker, and hopefully we can sell it for the price we are wanting to sell it for.

Below are some of the things we plan on doing in order to help our home sell better. There are other things we will be doing as well (such as removing personal belongings like picture frames) but those don’t need to be done until right before our house is actually on the market.

1. We will deep clean our home.

Our house is fairly clean right now (Wes is a clean freak and I am okay) but I know that in order to sell it we need to aggressively clean everything.

This means making sure the house is dust free, vacuuming up as much dog hair as we can (our dogs shed hair like the world is ending), shampooing the carpets, and more. We also need to power wash some exterior parts of our home such as the patio roof.

I still remember to this day some really bad home showings when we went home shopping a little over five years ago. Some of the times we were disgusted by how dirty some of the homes were. I understand that many people live in their homes as they are trying to sell it, but I think a person should try to keep their home as clean as possible.

2. We need to declutter.

We have a good amount of decluttering that we need to do.

Our basement is full of stuff (I’m serious when I say it’s FULL) that we are holding for others. We will need to tell the people one final time that it needs to be picked up, and then we will be donating whatever isn’t picked up.

I also need to go through closets and donate a lot of items out of there as well. We have a lot of stuff that we’ve picked up over the years that we probably don’t need.

That’s one good thing about selling your home, it’s like you can start over when you move to the next!

3. We will be painting several areas.

We don’t have a lot of painting that we need to do, but it wouldn’t kill us to repaint some of the rooms and touch up the baseboards. We definitely need to repaint my sister’s old bedroom because she painted it hot PINK. I didn’t even think about the problem that would cause until now.

We already have most of the paint bought, so all we need to do is get off our butts and do it. We’ll be waiting to do this until after we declutter some because it will be easier that way.

Another thing we plan on doing is using some Rustoleum spray paint to our kitchen cabinet’s knobs. They are an ugly outdated gold right now. When we bought our home they renovated the kitchen and it looks nice but for some reason they chose the worst color ever for the knobs.

4. We need to add more curb appeal.

Curb appeal is definitely something we need to work on.

We have been slowing working on it over the years, but we will be kicking it into high gear soon. We need to lay down some grass seed, plant more flowers, and possibly add one more exterior light to our home.

5. Maintenance/repair work.

We don’t have a ton of repair work to do, but we do have some.

A few years ago, we had a plumbing disaster where we actually had to tear out a small section of our living room wall. We were told not to close it up at the time just so we could check on it. We always had a couch in that location in the living room, so the hole in the wall pretty much has just been out-of-sight, out-of-mind. This is one thing that we will definitely need to repair.

What else do you recommend we start working on right now?

Have you encountered any problems when trying to sell your home in the past?

The picture above is a picture of our home. I will miss it when we eventually list it and it sells!
